Genistars (known as Mods by the people of Bienvenido) are a species of alien found on several planets within the Void. They can be modified during their early development by skilled humans using telekinesis, yielding a variety of forms with radically differing morphologies:
- ge-cats
- ge-wolves
- ge-eagles
- ge-chimps
- ge-monkeys
These organisms take orders telepathically from their masters, and people with strong psychic abilities are able to get genistars to perform more complex tasks. The monkey/chimp variety are used as domestic servants, able to cook, clean, wash clothing, serve food and so on.
It is revealed in The Abyss Beyond Dreams that genistars were in fact created by the Fallers, a species of hostile conquering aliens also found within the Void.
